Platform and environment specifications

Mar 10, 2011 at 9:34 PM

I have looked through the docs and FAQs and can't seem to find summary hosting environment requirements and reccomendation information.

Things like:

supported OSs (Windows server 2005 R2 x64, and so on...)

Server sizing reccomendations for CPU, memory, disk and so on

Database sizing...

If someone can point me in the right direction it would be very appreciated. Thanks.

You have made a really good point.  The openPDC project has evolved very quickly over the last 2 years so the platform and environment requirements have also evolved.

Ritchie made a great video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmuQD3dluxM  to install and run openPDC on a miniumally configured laptop.

The challenge for identifying the platform requirements is that openPDC is designed from ground up to be very scalable, therefore the platform requirements are different depending on how you intend to use it.  For example, if you are only using openPDC as a sensor data collector and relay, it requires much less resources than if you are using it as a database storage server with multiple input streams.  Some scenarios can be quite extensive.

How do you want to use openPDC?

Primarily as a collector and relay for a relatively small number of points from 3 PMUs at different substations. Not sure of the exact number of points yet.

Thanks.
